福島県西会津の山奥、人口500人ほどの奥川地区には、
近代以前からの古い記憶が今も息づく。
2011年、原発事故を契機に戻ってきたひとりの男が
土地に眠る祖先たちの声を聴く。
男の目の中で、
村の幾星霜の年月が走馬灯のように揺らめく。
村人たちは遺言のように語る——
生まれたところで死にたい、
死んだ後もこの村で生きていたい、と。
ある日、山の神さまの御神木が倒れる。
男はその木で家を建て、もう一度、村を作りはじめる ——
未来の人が「帰りたい」と願う、ふるさとを。
Deep in the mountains of Nishiaizu, Fukushima, JAPAN, in the Okugawa district—
home to around five hundred residents—memories older than modernity still quietly endure.
In 2011, after the nuclear disaster, a man returned to this village.
He begins to listen tothe voices of the ancestors resting within the land.
Through his eyes, the long passage of time the village has known
flickers like a revolving lantern.
The villagers speak as if offering their final testaments—
“I want to die where I was born. Even after I die, I want to go on living in this village.”
One day, the sacred tree of the mountain deity falls.
The man sets out to build a house, to shape a village—
a hometown that future generations will one day long to return to.
